Re: what does spun a hub mean

Most Props have a Hub, bonded to the Prop's Body........

When the Hub is No Longer Bonded to the Prop Body,..... The Hub will Spin, independent of the Prop Body........

Hence the term "Spun Hub"........

The "hub" is a rubber compound between the splines and prop body and acts as a shock absorber. When it comes loose from the body of the prop, the blade portion starts to slip (the hub spins inside the prop body). Since it's no longer firmly attached to the hub, eventually that portion will separate from the hub and be lost (new prop required). Fortunately, hubs are easily replaced by a competent prop shop ....

To add a point of clarification, all props do not have the rubber bushing between the hub and the outer blade area. The rubber bushing in a prop momentarily absorbs the shock if you hit something. It hopefully prevents damage to the gearcase. If you strike something hard enough, the bond between the rubber bushing, the hub, and the blade area breaks and therefore the hub just spins but the blade area does not. In other cases, with age, the bond just lets go even though you may not have hit anything.
