what does the control valve assym do???????????

I have a 1990 200 johnson vro and i noticed the control valve assym #0394407 dripping water. I was just curious what does this part do? I noticed since it developed this drip my motor pees ALOT stronger!!!!

control valve regulates flow for higher RPM. That's why it's tied to the throttle. Look up the posts by dhadley. I think it was "control valve ?"

It controls the water flow from t-stats/poppets(the stat is also a poppet) With it leaking the t-stats are unseating and allowing more water to flow thru block.

Thanks I plan on replacing the seal and wiper this weekend just curious as to what it did thanks again
