What does this cable on top of my engine go to?? Picture included...

I bought a 2001 Regal recently and it came with a 1998 4.3 Mercruiser with the 2BBL carb.

There is a black cable on top with a flat male connector. I cant tell what it would go to but appears as if it has a mate somewhere. The other wires not in use had covers over them, this one is bear. Its location is almost in between the alternator and thermostat on the bow side of the carb.

does the motor run? take a meter and see if the black wire goes to ground.

I have the same extra wire/connector on a 1990 5.0L Boat runs just fine. Let sleeping dogs lie.
