The other day I discovered a hose coming out of my lower unit and it was unconnected, but it does not have any suction but nothing leaks from it. As of now it is not doing any function, I believe it is suposed to cool my lower unit but i connected it and it is still not working. What could be the problem? I am sure this has a purpose. This is the link to show you the part that I am talking about. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/parts/home.aspx it is number 13. Please help.

the link you provided is a teat on a boar hog.
most likly your looking at the speedometer pitot line.
if you dont have a speedo its just not used.
in any case it has NOTHING to do with lower unit cooling.
post the full model number of whatever we are disscussing then we can go look.

Re: What does this hose do?

just as I thought, pitot tube.
never has a suction, nothing to do with cooling.
only purpose in life is to supply water PRESSURE to the speedometer, IF used.
if not used its simply another part along for the ride.

Well curious what cools the boot? I feel like it is over heating.
