What engine can be swapped in and work?

I have a 1987 2.3l 4 cylinder ford engine currently in my 17ft bayliner. The engine is shot and I am looking to put another eninge in the boat. What if any engines will fit and hook up with my Cobra OMC outdrive which is still in great shape? Will a 4 cylinder mercruiser hook up with out any major problems? Thanks for any info that you can provide for me as I have been searching online without being able to find any info on this topic.

get another 2.3 ford, the merc 4cyl is a chevy block, so everything is different.

will a 3L OMC swith out with a 2.3L OMC and hook up with no changes?

2.3 only

the 2.5 and 3.0's are all chevy products.
