Weather's gonna be cold for a bit, so I figured I'd patch and repaint my motors cowling. The PO painted the top portion of the cowling some ugly dark blue that looks a bit purple-ish.

Been looking though Evinrude spray paints and can't tell which one would match my motor.

Here's a vid of my motor(1977) so you can get a idea of the color.

Evinrude lists a "dark blue", a "metallic blue", etc. I can't tell which is which with the crappy color in the pics. Anyone have any idea?

Take a blue sample to an auto parts store and have it matched.

There are some companies (Tempo) that used to sell matching paint however, I have not seen them around in a long time.

That's prob what I'll end up doing. I'll chip a small sample of the blue from the inside of the motor so I can try and somewhat match it.

Re: What Evinrude blue is this?

I found some automotive blue paint that looks pretty darn good. It's GM(General Motors) metallic blue. Painting the lower portion of the cowling white and the top blue.

Was an absolute pain-in-the-arse getting the damn stripes off. The stripes portion came off okay, but it left the silver metallic backing stuck solid to the cowl. It didn't want to give up the ghost without a huge fight.

Had to use utility blades, a hair dryer, and some goo-gone then sandpaper!

Painting the emblems is turning into quite a chore also. I'm no master craftsman like many here....just trying to make the cowl presentable.

After seeing the result...I'm thinking the GM color I chose, is an exact match. I wonder if the Evinrude paint is actually the GM paint in disguise.
