What exactly is a power pack?

Folks,<br /><br />OK, I read the Clymer shop manual for my 82 Johnson 140 (or am still reading). I am trying to ID all of the pieces parts for my edification (I know a big word, had my Wheaties this morning).<br /><br />I see how to test the power pack, how it's connected, how to trouble shoot and replace, etc.<br /><br />I still don't know exactly what it does?<br /><br />Any help is greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Safe boating to all.<br /><br />Cheers.<br /><br />emp.

Ed, the power pack manages the low voltage ignition and is the same functionally as an automotive CD ignition system. It feeds the low voltage to the coils at the right time for spark.
