What fast hull for 80HP outboard?

Hello everyone,
a friend of mine has a 1972 Mercury 80HP outboard, long shaft, which he purchased new, used one season, then put away. He mentioned selling it, was thinking I could put it on something as a zip-around boat (maybe two-seater, 15'?). There should be plenty of engine-less hulls around for sale.

My other boat is a 22' Angler Cuddy WA, which I use to cross the Long Island Sound, BBQ on, tie up, sleep on, etc.

This boat would be to fly around on calm days, any suggestions? Thinking 50+MPH? I had a Yamaha Jet boat that went about 60, which seemed damn fast.

look for a mid-70's glastron or scatcraft--remember the james bond movie? The long shaft will be a hard match for a speed boat though, I bet, but I'm just guessing.
Is it a merc 800? I love telling people I put a 200 on my 13' whaler

Thanks for the reply. Will search around CL and see if anything comes up.

My friend said he had it on a Glastron, IIRC, did about 40MPH, not sure which model.

What about those mini (14') cigarette boats?

Thanks,
John

I thnk people now say "cigarette" when they mean speed boat. Usually it's applied generically to larger boats and "ocean racers."
