Hello

1st. Post

i have a 2000 Mercruser 7.4 mpi and need a replacement fuel injector. I can’t read 1 number of the engine serial number.

L682?55

Also, any idea how much 1 would cost!

Thank you

Actually I have 7 cylinders firing and the 8th seems dead. Can’t get the cylinder to fire even with a shot of ether.

Any suggestions on s before I break open my piggy bank!

Tell us more about the issue and what lead up to the injector conclusion?

The issue is with an MPI I'm trying to understand how either was induced into one cylinder with enough time and determined that its not spark, instead of fuel?

If it actually is an injector, then moving the injector to another cylinder and the issue will also move.

Before that I would pull all injectors and send them to a marine flow test place. This is not to be sent to just any injector place, it needs to be tested for flow up to 6000 rpm

27’ bow rider w/7.4 mpi. Tach not working
Boat top end is 32 mph. There seems to be plenty of power and absolutely no hesitation. It just does not seem fast enough.

Outdrive and prop prop have never been changed.

No spark from the one dead cylinder. Hooked up quick silver diagnostic unit with no help. Compression good.

In this case it could be lack of spark more then fuel.

Remove distributor cap and check cap and rotor
Next move one plug wire for another, or better yet, get a spark tester and check for spark at each cylinder

If you get spark and still have issue at that cylinder, check compression

Thank you everyone

i will have the “cover” taken off this week and switch the injectors.

All the other suggestions have been done at least once.

BTW be careful with the ebay injectors, they are remanufactured. So unless your going to get them and have them flow tested I would not trust them

I have used RC fuel injection in California to clean and flow test the tbi injectors on my 5.7. They also do mpi injection. You get a before and after report to.

Follow up.......

Purchased a new fuel injector from eBay as suggested on this thread.

Paid $100

had as a mechanic install injector with new o ring and gasket.

Boat increased 10mph! Yes, my top speed on my 27’ bow rider, 7.4 mpi L29 was 32 mph. Just the new injector got the boat going 42+ mph!

i have been told that this is unbelievable. Any thoughts?

tachometer does not work. Never had any hesitation. Boat ran smooth and got up on plane quickly before and now.

Very big difference for just one cylinder......anyway good for you to see your boat running again.
