What gas should i be using in this engine. I have been running 93 octane shell v-power premium. is this the best fuel for the engine or should i be using regular or mid-grade? The engine runs peerrrr-fect on the 93octane

What part of (not engine topics) did you not understand, Lucre?

To Non-repair Outboard.

Neither does this forum have anything to do with repair, Lucre.

It has to do with discussions involving outboard engines that do not involve troubles or repair. Your request for advice on what fuel to use in your outboard engine fits exactly.

Let me remind you that personal insults are forbidden here.

Your engine should run fine on 87 octane unleaded regular.

Unless the compression has been increased through some sort of performance upgrades, then 87 will work perfectly.

Will 93 harm the motor from running to hot? I always wondered this. I like to use it every once in a while to clean up the fuel system in my 2 stroke small outboards.

no, the extra octane reduces the fuel's volatility to the point where the high compression ratios in performance engines won't cause it to pre-detonate. the detergents almost seem redundant if you're in an area where E-10 gas is sold.

Man, that hairstyle went out years ago! Is all this talk about ethanol blend gas affecting seals in older engines a bunch of garbage? Some guy at a landing told me to only use high octane gas w/o ethanol in my 1972 6 hp engine. I am staying away from the ethanol, but am running 87 octane w/o problems. Can I safely use 10% ethanol blend fuel?

C-venn -- At todays gas prices, SeaFoam is a heck of a lot cheaper than using premium fuel and a lot more effective as a fuel system cleaner and decarb agent.
