Im going to be laying carpet down in my 65 Glassmaster 15' with 40 HP manual shift Johnson. I bought the carpet, 3 yards, but not sure what kind of glue to use! I have the floor spotless now & all ready for instalation. I was even thinking of gluing velcro strips down, (sorta like tac strips under wall 2 wall carpet) so i could take rug up for winter . but not sure yet. Anyway, can one of you knowlagable people out there point me in the right direction on whats best to use? :) This is my first boat that can use carpet. The others were small 10' & 12' alluminium fishing boats. Thanks - Scott-

If you go removable, snaps would be the better bet.

Get the outdoor glue at the home depot. Get the plastic trowel of the correct depth and throw it away when finished.<br /><br /> I tried the 3M 77 and I thought it has worked as soon as the boat got hot under the cover it pulled off vertical surfaces!

Scotty,<br />I would suggest that you purchase marine grade carpet glue from a marine supplier, such as West Marine, Boater's World, etc, and follow label instructions for application and best results.<br />Some glues which you purchase from home improvement centers will not hold up to marine environment. <br />Be safe to enjoy another day.

Yes agree try and obtain a marine grade contact adhesive and follow manufacturers instructions especially when it comes to surfaces to be glued preparation, mind you I also like the snap stud route, easy to take out and clean, Kind regards William Wright

Omega-1 and jurgens craft<br />"I would suggest that you purchase marine grade carpet glue from a marine supplier, such as West Marine, Boater's World, etc, and follow label instructions for application and best results."<br />I could make a living off you guys. The only time you will catch me in those stores if it cant be found anywhere else. I just looked at a docking light bulb there not to long ago. 14 bucks, the same bulb right down to the packing at H.D. was $4.59. <br />Get the outdoor adhesive Realgun said. You could even use the indoor latex carpet adhesive (I do because its what I have) but it is harder to work with and you have to keep it dry for 2 days so the outdoor would be better for a novice.

Thx F_inscreename. :) Seriously if it says outdoor then it will work just fine. Lots of people recommend marine grade products. True to a certain extent however the exact same thing and material is used for many other things and packaged cheaper too!<br /><br />Good thing I did not use marine plywood and marine epoxy otherwise, I really would be in the poor house and not enjoying the boat!

Totally agree. I bought 4 litres of the outdoor stuff (used around pool decks and such), think I paid $20cdn for it (about $4 usd ;) ) and it works great.
