'66 Johnson 20hp with regular ol' 87 octane pump gas and appropriate amount of oil. All fuels lines were replaced about 2 years ago. No issues with ethanol......yet.

1975 Johnson 85 HP. Use 87 octane, some has ethanol, sometimes no, depending on which state I buy in.

Re: What grade fuel are you running?

Any actual advantage to running a higher octane fuel instead of basic 87?

... aaaaaaannnnnnndd they're OFF! :D

Sorry Tony ... there are about a zillion threads on fuels and oil, with about 2 zillion different opinions. The nice part about it is that all of the opinions are right.

Only if your engine needs the higher octane. My 3.0L diesels like crazy on 87 octane and the problem goes away with 91 (and 89 most of the time) I run the 91 because for my boat it is a 100% solution to the problem.

My father in laws 5.7 Malibu is happy with the 87, so we never put anything else in it.
