My shore power cord suddenly turned GREEN! It is still on trailer and all cord inside locker is now green. The wire outside going to 110 recepticle is still yellow. A couple of weeks ago I left some lights on in the cabin and drained the battery. I turned the charger on and today I noticed the cable. I leave the charger on most of the summer with never a problem. Is it possible the cord over heated because of the drained battery beeing recharged or is ther something else?

I have no clue why it turned green. I wouldn't run a science experiment involving electricity on my boat though. Just replace it.

I'm sure the whole cord inside didn't turn green, maybe just replace the ends.
I have a question thow, You said in the locker, did you have and damp lines in it too?

Cord was in a locker but no moisture. I have now found out that I have a bad battery (less than 1 yr. old), maybe charger was pulling to much current? About 30 feet is dark green with the other 20 still yellow. This all happened in the last 3 weeks. It also smelled pretty nasty when I opened the canvas.

I would have to see it but it could have gotten hot enough to dammmage the jacket ?

A bad connection or a cord thats just to small for the load can cause a lot of heat

When i see bad cords the plugs usally show some signs of heat dammage

tommays

try spraying the green section with full strength bleach and let it sit for 10 minutes. If it is still green you better check the circuit breaker where it was plugged in.Should have tripped the breaker after getting hot enough to change color.

Re: What happened to my power cord?

It was electrical not mildew. Overheated for some reason, hopefully from bad battery but will check on breakers.

That can also happen from not having the shore power ends not twisted to lock.
