what happens when i disconect the neg battery cable while the boat is running,

ok so i noticed the neg battery lead is coming looses when the motor is running and i noticed that it looses power is that from the battery cable or can it be somthing else it all started happening last weekend the motoris a 1989 175 hp evinrude with a low water pick up,,help since i would like to be back out on lk monroe and th st johns,,

It tends to blow up the voltage regulator. Other parts can be damaged. Hopefully you will fix the battery cable.

If you're using wing nuts, throw em as far as you can and replace with ss hex nuts and washers, tightened with a wrench.

Not in my boat, but in my Maverick, I had the battery in the trunk and not secured securely...Anyways, took a turn with the wheels spinning, my battery rolled over and disconnected the cables, so running on my alternator now. Was about a mile, mile and a half from home, so headed that way. Burned out my tachometer, air/fuel ratio gauge, a couple other things. Cost me WAY more to fix it than it would have to secure the battery...
