I just made an agreement today with a farmer down the road from me for his late 60's islander inboard for free , if i get it out of his yard. it is on a nice galvanized dual axel trailer with the axels are shot... its been sitting a long time..the floor is gone..there are bits and pices of carpet but hardly any wood...the guy says it has a chevy straight 6 in it...and he says he put a new outdrive on it..9 when he put it away!!) the father in law has dumped stuff nearby foir so long the lower portion of the outdrive is buried!!

the hull is near perfect...original clean paint...all the rivets look good!!! no dent or scratches...but a chaulky blue paint.

two questions

1) did they make more than one size Islander in the late 60's? 21 ft 22 ft 19 ft?
2) what is the HP the straight 6's were in that time frame??

ill have to excavate the trailer as its on the top of a side hill, and somehow get two new axels under it and four new tires....then the farmer will hook it to his tractor and bring it to the road for me...

thanks

If it's a straight six it should be 165 hp.Beyond that I have no idea.

Free Islander? WOW!!!:D:D

Yah, at that time I think there was just the 22' version of the Islander.

Also at that time most of em had the 120 Merc or Stringer Drive in em too.

If it's actually a 60's (or early 70's) I have to think the I6 was dropped in later.

Can't wait to see some photos!!:)

Yep, even pix of it up to the axles in the mud & partially hidden in the weeds are better then none.

I've used my truck's scissor jack under a trailer frame to raise it enough to change out a 1/2 buried & flat tire... It's thinner then a pump style floor jack and much shorter then a bottle jack, so you can often get it between the ground & the frame much easier. Without the wheels. it's moderately more stable on slightly uneven ground, a sq of plywood helps to keep the jack foot from sinking too. But you need to be sure you aren't damaging the top plate of the scissor jack, if you're using 1 out of your car. You don't want it to not fit & lift your car properly. For reference:

Awesome find! Congrats!

If trailer's partially buried, you'll need to make sure it's not compromised before you lift it, change an axle & try to pull it out, even on 4 new rims & tires on 2 new axles.

I almost bought a donor boat, motor & trailer on the cheap, but 1/2 buried the trailer looked like it twisted slightly as it sank & cracked in a few places under a snow load or 2 in years past, made the motor & trailer's value too low to be worth the effort to recover them from a field, besides being an hour from the house. But titled for less then $100, I had hoped the motor would at least be partially salvageable...A 22' islander would hold even more water weight.

Hope it's better then you expect & it's in great overall condition for sitting on a hill somewhere! Congrats again.

I guess ill go measure this thing. the brochures i have seen here and some searching online says there are 1970 islanders that are listed as 21V and are 21.08 feet then they have a 1971 islander that is listed as a 22' and it measures 21.16 ft...go figure...in 1969 they seem to have only offered a 120 hp 4 cylinder..but in 1970 they offered a 160 hp motor and in 1972 they offered three motors,....confusing...

is it possible the straight 6 chevy is not original??

ill have to see the paperwork he has...

and tomorrow Ill try and get inside the hull and look at the motor better

maybe even take some pictures...you guys would love that....a partially burried broken axeled , side of a steep yard boat find.....

because you dont have to get that thing out of there!! ha ha ha..the prop is under the dirt!!
