I was told my motor is a 1500 and it says that on the cowling the ser # on the power head and on the transonclamp is the same #3628720 but it says 1150 on the drive shaft housing I did find this @ Grubb's Marine: so witch one is it??
Mercy 1150 115hp 2836019 thru 3761034 1970-73
Merc 1500 150hp 3502806 thru 3752619 1973
Any help would be appreciated
thx ron

I can't say for certain that your motor is either of them, but lets say it this way. A driveshaft housing is relatively a lot easier to change than a powerhead and a clamp bracket assembly, if you get what I mean. As it's the powerhead that actually determines a motor's size, I'd go for that?

Both motors would be/are a 1973 mod.

if you go and look into the spec charts on the two engines for instance the seloc manual . and compare the results . i gather the 1500 carbs and reeds are slightly different . different specs .also the lower unit not sure but it may be a bit more beefed up . perhaps an expert can fill us in on it
