I have a 1970 Johnson 40 hp. I am having trouble with the solenoid on the carb. It keeps burning up. 2 @ $116.50 ea. this is killing me. Anyone have any ideas? what is the purpose and can it be removed.....lol ? I have another carb from another Johnson engine that does not have the solenoid on it.

Not familiar with your 70 model Johnson...too new for me. But, solenoids on the carb are usually there for electronic choke...you can probably use a carb without the solenoid, but you won't have a choke unless the replacement carb and your engine cover allow for it. Post a photo if you can.
