What is 50:1 ratio? 16 oz to 6 gal

I know this is basic, but please bear with. Does the 50:1 oil/gas ratio mean add 16 oz oil to 6 gallons of gas? Or 8 oz to 6 gallons?<br /><br />Thanks

this is simple. a 50:1 means that it is diluted 1 part per every 50 parts. there are 128 ounces in a gallon. so this can be done with simple math. 128/50=2.56. so about 2.5 ounces per gallon.

Yes, Joey.<br /><br />It actually calculates to 48:1 to add 16oz. (1 pint) of oil to 6 gallons of gas, but what most of us actually do is add gas to 16oz. of oil until the tank is full.<br /><br />A 6 gallon tank will take 5-7/8 gallons after 16oz. of oil is poured in. That calculates to 47:1.<br /><br />Don't you just hate engineering thinking?

50:1 is 1 pint oil (16 oz.) to 6.25 gallons gasoline.

and just to annoy the americans (cause this is the way i do it)<br />50:1 = 100ml of oil to 5 litres of fuel

Can't buy no stinkin litres of gas here. <br /><br />Can't buy no gas cans measured in litres here either. <br /><br />All our pump are in gallons, carried out to 2 decimal points, 3.14 gallons, etc.<br /><br />How far you gonna go on a litre of gas anyway?<br />My momma can throw a fry pan that far.
