What is a fair price for this?

I'm looking to sell my old boat/motor/trailer and I'm not sure what a fair price is. I've looked around but as everything is old, I'm having a hard time figuring a price. here is what I have:

1988 17' Sunbird Cuddy Cabin boat. The hull is in great shape but the deck is soft and needs to be replaced, as do the inner side panels. A complete new steering box/cable was installed last year.

1989 Johnson 88HP motor. Runs great, was completely gone through by a good mechanic last year. Excellent compression. Many seals were replaced and the carbs rebuilt last year. the only issue with it is the lift cylinder is shot.

1988 trailer with new wiring, new bearings, new galvanized wheels and new tires. Most of the rollers have been replaced, bunker style and individual.

I intend on being fully honest with everything.

Thnaks for the help!

in that condition the value is in the motor and trailer, it's a project boat. the engine is a great engine, i have an 88 88spl. if the deck has soft spot, 90% chance the stringer and transom are to, i wouldn't pay over $3,000 that for the engine and trailer.

If someone offers $3000 take the money to the bank. Where I live that rig would be bring around $3000-$3500 if needing no major work and in good shape. A used 1988 galv trailer is worth about $500-$600...add another $200-$300 for aluminum. The motor in A1 shape is worth $1000 on a good day with operating trim...and half of that if needing major trim repair. The boat is worth $1000-$1500 in good shape and ready for a motor...but worth scrap value if it needs floors, stringers or new a transom. Soft wood kills resale. You will do better $$$ by parting out the rig.

I agree that the only value is in the engine and trailer. I'd expect more like $2500 at most for the value. 17' cuddys are just not in demand as "family boats". It's still and old motor and trailer even if in good condition. Replacing the floor/stringers/etc. on a boat with so little value is of little interest to most people.

You may get more selling the engine and trailer seperately and parting out any useful "stuff" from the boat then paying a few bucks to get rid of the rest of the boat....depends on if you want to screw around taking parts off and selling them on eBay. Used but still useable parts DO sell on ebay and for a decent price usually. Steering wheels, guages, controls, cables, cleats - you name it and someone usually is looking for it for less than the cost of new.

No doubt you have an emotional attachment to her, but selling is business. If you are done using her the "fair value" is whatever a buyer is willing to pay. Period. A blue book (or whatever) has never actually bought anything. It's an opinion. And you know what they say about opinions (especially mine!).

Unless you want her sitting around the yard for a couple of years offer it locally without listing a price. Let the buyer mention what he will pay. You might get lucky. Also list it on ebay with a low reserve,$400-$800. A low reserve will get more people looking. Offer to tow it 150 miles or so toward the winner. Wait till the money hits your account. Good luck.
