I have a 1988 85hp Force and I would like to add a rpm tach but the dash room is limited because of the fish finder. What is the best tach to get. I have been out of the loop for years and have no idea.

Re: What is a good tach to get for a Force?

Hello,

There is a special tach that is needed and they are not made any more. Some have found them on E-Bay and even at the I-Boats Store. It has a special number of pulses, but I can not remember what they are. Hopefully, some one will chime in and let you know. Just know that there is a specific tach for the Force Motors. Maybe six pulses, but I am not sure.

I hope this helps,

Donald

Try and get a Tiny Tach. I have one- works a treat. available a Walmart ( sorry, an Aussie jooke:))

I got mine from ebay, it is pretty accurate, and easy to install.

You need a 20 pole outboard tach for that motor.
No one is making them now.
You might find one on ebay from time to time, as dealers are cleaning out their stock rooms and selling these off.

tinytach is an option. It is an inductive tach, that picks the spark signal up from a sparkplug wire.
They come with very short wiring.

Call tinytach and pay the extra $$ to get wiring long enough to reach the dash.
Also pay to have the noise filter installed.
