Hello,
I have a Merc 5.0L V8 I/O, AlphaOne Gen 2 on a 2000 20' Open Bow Boat. I purchased last fall and the first launch I ever took it out she started right up but would idle to low when put into neutral w/o any gas. At the ramp I screwed the small idle screw in as far as I could by hand and this fixed the problem.
This year I have been tinkering with the screw a bit to get to a good idle rpm but I am not sure exactly what that sweet spot is. After firing up the boat and warming up at the slip, then idling out the inlet (so motor is still pretty cold) it idles nicely at about 800-900 but after the boat has ran all day and coming back in to the inlet it runs at about 1100 rpm and seems to "shake" a bit. Nothing to crazy and no one on the boat really realizes it but me but I am wondering what I should do? Should I just lossen the idle screw so it is at about 1000 rpm once warmed up?
I looked through the Merc manual I have but couldnt really find a "standard" idle rpm, if one actually exisits.
Tips would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
