No. Patty your unit had, or still has an overheat warning lite on the dash panel. There for no need for the telltail. To test the light, disconnect from sending unit and ground it. The light should come on.

Hello Patty pooh, dont call your questions dumb cause most guy post worse questions than yours. Welcome to the board. A tell tale is a water indicator (small hose) that shows a stream of water on the starboard side (usually) of a out board motor.Just lets youknow if your waterpump is pumping water thru the block. And the previous post was right your engine prob. didnt have one.

I wouldn't buy any thing but an original OMC manual. Look for one at kencook.com. A telltale is a stream of water flowing out of your motor to let you know it's cooling. :)

Hi Patty...

If you look at the back of the engine just below the engine pan you will see one or two holes in the midsection. With the motor running, some water will spit out here. After the tstats open, a little more will be evident. If there is no water at all and the engine gets very hot to the touch, shut it down. The water pump impeller will probably need replaced or the tstats will need replaced or in some cases both. Did you get fuel to the engine yet? I had to log of last night due to some heavy t-storms in our area.
