Allows you to 1. pull the rope start from above rather than in front of the motor, 2. extends the shift lever so that it is easily reached from the top. and 3. allows the throttle to be controled from a lever that extends upwards in place of the tiller handle. We used to call them a sailboat kit.

Um, if on a sailboat, wouldn't you steer it with the rudder?

Does BigB9000 have a sailboat???

The point is that in order to install the top mount kit, you have to remove the tiller handle.

There is no part in the 6HP top control kit for steering.

Tell you what, I have a new one here that has instructions with it. I'll copy them and email to you in the morning if it's important. Send a PM.

I don't have any idea whether or not he has a sailboat. But the top mount control kit was designed for running the motor in a box on a sailboat where you can't pull the rope straight out. There sometimes isn't enough room in there to swivel the steering, or it is just plain inconvenient.

Then the next step was trying to make them run in the stupid box. Smoke inhallation, y'know.

I'll pass on the instructions, I've personally installed several of the kits for sailboaters back "in the day". But have never installed a remote steering kit to go with it. However, it might be a handy thing to have. I dunno, I'm not a sailboater. There are hundreds of them around here though, so they don't need me. Except for the one who crashed into the bridge and couldn't get away from it because the wind kept blowing him against it. I towed him way out to open water, and dad-gum if he didn't crash into the bridge again.
