hello, i have a 1984 150hp Johnson VRO. just a quick question. at what rpm's should my engine be maxxed out for peek performance. at present it turns up 5500 rpm's now at WOT. thanks in advance for your help.<br /><br />ibgood
I don't know the specific operating range for your engine, Ibgood, but when in doubt I always go for 5500rpm.<br /><br />Based on that I think you are in the ten ring.<br /><br />Good luck.
For maximum life we shoot for 5800 with an average load on those motors.<br /><br />Peak performance depends a lot on your hull type.<br /><br />Absolute max rpms on that motor? The stock reeds start to give up between 6300 and 6500 rpm. The stock ports quit breathing around 7000.<br /><br />Good luck!
