What is my amperage draw?

I bought a boat last fall with an unknown year Minn Kota Mag 40lb thrust foot control trolling motor on it. I need to purchase a new battery this year for it and want to get one that will stand up but there is no plate on it indicating amperage draw. It is model MAG 40W serial # 6246. With this info can anybody tell me the amperage draw?

The amps needed for your trolling motor will be listed in the technical section of the documentation for that model. The Minn Kota website has info on battery selection as well.<br /><br /> http://www.minnkotamotors.com/

general rule is 1 amp for every pound of thrust for a 12 volt motor. so 40 amps.
