I have a 1967 Merc 200 20 HP outboard. How would I find out what my recommended RPM range is. I have 3 different props and a Tiny Tach on its way. I need to know what should I shoot for WOT. Does anyone know this RPM range or max RPM at WOT?

Re: What is my recommended RPM Range?

I found the answer in where else but my trusty Seloc Repair Manual. It says the WOT is 5000-5400 RPM. Now I have something to shoot for. Once I get my Tiny Tach. I have the stock 2 blade 9x11 and 2 different replacement 3 blade props with different pitch. Thats 3 different props to try out with just me in the boat.

I plan to find which prop gives me as close to 5400 RPMs with only me in the boat. Once I determine this I will then test again with a passenger in the front. I am curious if the SAME prop will test best for both situations. I will try and post my findings because there doesn't seem to be much info here about the 2 vs. 3 blade props. One thing that most are assuming is that the 3 blade has more blade surface area. This IS NOT true. The blades are much smaller. I can tell that the hole shot is much slower with the 3 blade but cannot tell which has better top end. Am I planning this the right way with the RPMs and WOT? I am doing this not only to get the most from my Merc that I am so proud of but also to learn more about diameter, pitch, load, etc.
Any feedback on before I get started? Tiny Tach should be here by the weekend. New hubs for extra props are getting pressed tomorrow.
