what is new multi purpose lubricant (Merc)

I just put a new impeller in my merc 9.8 and it says to put new multi purpose lubricant on the splines and the hose from the water pump. What is it? (WD40) (grease) (vaseline) Can anybody out there help with what I need to use? Thanks

I believe that would be Quicksilver 2-4-c Multi-Lube. I also believe that is a marine grade grease. But since I have stuck my neck out, someone will be along shortly to give more detailed info. Guarranteed.<br /><br />You don't need much, just a thin coating.<br /><br />Some people also coat the impeller with dish soap to make the install go a little easier.

Roscoes right it a marine grade grease with teflon.You put it on to stop corrrosion & to make it easier to assemble & dismantle at a later date.
