I just obtained a '63 Evinrude Sportwin 10hp. The label on the front of the cowl says only to use OMC type "B" in the gearcase. OMC seems to make only two kinds now. The "premium" type, which I assume supercedes the type "c" because the label says its for all pre '72 models and those with electric shift. And the "regular" type for all others made after '72 (the thick kind). Which should I use for this outboard?

My repair manual on the 63 10hp Sportwin specs type "C" for the lower unit...same as the earlier engines. It also says if you cannot get type "C" to use regular outboard oil until "C" is available. Change every 100 hrs. In the real world standard 80w hypoid has worked for me on the old engines.
