what is proper temp?

AQ125A volvo penta 4 cyl<br /><br />12 o'clock on the guage is 180 degrees, but i'm running at about 190-195. i'm blowing a "small" quantity of coolant out of the tank and am wondering if this is normal or i'm running a bit warm. i know cars around 210-220. <br /><br />what is proper temp? i don't know when thermastat was last changed.

180 is norm. Are you sure the coolant is coming out of the tank? Theres a weep hole next to the overflow bottle. Very likely that when you get up pressure its leaking there. Try a coolant pressure test

i don't know if your framiliar with this engine, but i don't know of a overfil bottle. the cap seems a bit loose, so i'll see about replacing this.<br /><br />in the mean time, i'll check for overflow this weekend.<br /><br />where is the thermostat on the AQ125? <br /><br />thanks for your comments.

Unfortunately Im very familiar with that motor. Overflow SHOULD be stbd. side of engine. Yours may not have one or it may have been taken off. GOOD LUCK . As for the thermostat..;.find it your self.................

A 180 thermostat will operate at about 195 - all is well. The thermostat is in a housing bolted between the engine block & the heat exchanger

I have a 93 cobalt with a 5.0 Mercruiseer. It operates at 175, but sometimes spikes to 220 at idle ( another discussion) At what temperature am I doing damage?
