Minnow,
I believe I have that occuring also. I sounds like a slap in the motor when I throttle back quickly from WOT at about 5200 rpm's.I dosen't do it from about cruise speed at 3600 rpm's.I don't know what causes it. I hope we get some feed back.It does not sound like it's good for the motor.Maybe I am running too rich?
D.W.B in Atoka
Yea, the 2000 40hp Mercury I had before the 2003 75 Mercury made that slap noise. The new 75 now doesn't do that, but it did make a squealing noise after a WOT run, but then the squeal stopped. Someone mentioned that it could be caused by rapid deceleration.
Minnow,
My motor is a 1999 50hp.Was that slap noise normal? Seems like mine just started doing it last time out.Like I explained it only does it from wide open to a fast deceleration.
Regards,
D.W.B in Atoka
The 40hp ran fine. I think it might have been the sound of the 2 stroke engine coming off its powerband, muffled by water. Rev a 2 cycle dirtbike to redline and let off the throttle, you will see what I am getting at. The sound it makes is a kick back sort of sound. It's hard to explain.
