I'm looking for an older 70hp 2stroke, early to mid 90's I suppose. I found a great low hour Nissan but since discovered parts are tough to find as they are no longer being made.

What do you think I should be looking for in terms of parts, durability and service?

the mid-eighties Johnson 70 is known as a great motor; not so much in the 90's. newer, I think I'd look for a Yamaha if they made 70's then

Do you know if the Johnson 60hp is the same motor from that period? A few of those around.

The 60 & 70 3-holers are essentially the same motor. Different carbs and, depending on the year, porting.

The 3-cylinder Johnrudes are solid motors throughout their run. 1979 & up gets you the better ignition and updated power trim & tilt. Parts availability is very good and relatively inexpensive.
