What is the best use for this..

This fiberglass cloth is very thin unlike the heavy mesh I've used. It seems like it would take 10 layers to have any strength. Is this cloth mainly used for a finishing top layer, what are some of it's primary uses?

Ayuh,... It's pretty much for a Barrier coating... typically 6/ 7oz. stuff...

From the picture, it appears to be what would be the 1st layer, after the gelcoat has been shot into the mold....
Or,...
Growing up, My Granddad, Dad,+ Uncles used that for updating canvas over wood fishin' boats,+ canoes...
They'd strip the hulls back to the wood, slap on some resin, lay a piece of that across the hull, more resin, Colored Red, Green, or sometimes Blue of course...
Next day,... They had a Brand New boat.....

Now that you mention it Bondo, as a kid I remember my Dad bringing a boat back up from florida purchased during a family vacation, i remember now it flipped over in the backyard and this is what he probably used it was a wooden boat and this was back in the sixties, I found it up in the attic of the old house.
I'm thinking it would be good for encasing stringers or a layer over a plywood floor maybe.

yes.....that is a finishing veil.....it is glass and can be used allmost any where a woven product is needed but its smoothness will make an easy sand rather than the fiberous material of csm.

i use that stuff as a top layer any where you need a finish.

its perfect for the deck........
