Let me start off by saying i have a 1977 85 hp e-rude and im very concerned about it not getting enough water to kool it down. i see no pee-stream coming out and im wanting to know what is the difference between a water pump and an impellar or are they the same thing. also how hard is it to change one out.

Your '77 does not have a tell-tale. You should, however, see some spitting out the two exhaust relief holes under the lower cowling.

The impeller is a part of the water pump assembly. The terms are often used interchangeably in practice, but that's not technically correct.

Unless you've got it on a 14-foot boat, that's going to be too much prop for that motor. The two sort-of standard props for it are 13x17 and 13x19.

You can add a tell-tale to that motor pretty easily - see the sticky at the top of the forum list. They started adding tell-tales in '78.

The tell-tale or pee-stream is a visual indicator to verify that your water pump is working correctly. You can see it from inside the boat, unlike the exhaust relief ports. Additionally, you can hook up that line to a water pressure gauge.

Not a necessity, just thought I'd mention it.

so tell me how much would it cost to put a tell tale in this motor with all the supplies.
