What is the HP rating on a 350 Mag

Quick question. Looking at buying a 1995 Mariah with a 350 Mag. It is an alpha with a carb instead of FI. Owner doesn't know what the hp rating is so I was trying to find out on my own. I notice that for parts purposes the 1987-1995 seem to be the same with an alpha and a carb, 1 piece rear main and a roller cam. Any body know how I can find out it's rating without having an engine VIN? I have looked at classified ads and have seen anything from 265 to 325 for a 350 mag in the years listed above. Thanks for the help.

its probably a 270... i know the new multiports are 330...<br /><br />one way to check will be to pull a valve cover and check head casting #'s...

Head Casting 14096217 will have 270

If you have a rockchester 4bbl, a high rise intake #14096242, you probably have the #14096217 head and 270hp. However, that does not mean you'll absolutely have roller lifters.

It's largely irrelevant. A few HP really doesnt make a big difference in moving a boat. Get a model number and look it up on Merc's website if you really must know.

Was more curious than anything. I agree that it is probably a 270hp though. I looked at the mercruiser sight and didn't find anything that gave hp figures for older models. I did not register though. Thank you for the help.

My friend has a 1994 Celebrity with a 350 MAG Alpha Drive. It is rated at 250 HP I have a 2000 Celebrity 5.7l alpha gen 2 Drive rated at 250HP. We have compared the two and it appears they are about the same. I would say Mercruiser just repackaged the same engine. They both have 2BL carbs., I manage about 5mph faster than him.

I have an 89 plain 350 Merc with 4 bbl. HP rated at 260 HP with the alpha drive.
