I have a small boat. If I ever decide to upgrade to a 40, it will have to be the lightest one available. It would probably be a 2 stroke because they are always lighter than their 4 stroke counterparts, for the most part anyway.

So which one do you guys feel is the lightest?

I think you'll find the Nissan/Tohatsu to be the lightest at 159 lbs.

Of the big name brands, the Yamaha will be the lightest at 189.

Thanks Fork, but I checked their website and that's stated as the weight for the "minimum version." The 40 I'd need is a 20 inch shaft, electric start, remote controls. Tohatsu doesn't give a weight for that version of their engine, and considering that doesn't even include the prop, I bet it would put it at close to 189, like the others.

They are all going to be about 190-200 LBS. Pick one that makes you happy!!

Yep, probably pretty close. I think you'll find that the Nissan and Tohatsu come standard with props, while the big names don't. Not much of a factor with weight, but you gotta figure the prop into the cost.

Good luck. :)
