I'm restoring an old Starcraft from the 70's. On the front of the boat on the hull there is a little round metal piece mounted there. It's right in front if the windshield and about dead center. What is it? A flag holder? An antenna mount? Please help

Re: What is the mount for?

Hard to tell without pictures... Some of the starcraft guys probably know the part by heart and will come along and confirm.

It could be a variety of things: Old mount for a (now missing) horn; flag holder; bow light mount; or even a lifting eye (similar to a cleat for tying off, etc...). Snap a pic and we can tell you for sure what it is.

How do I put pics on here?

Best way to post pics is to open a Free Photobucket account, Load your pics to there, and then use the IMG Code to paste into your iBoats post.

Might get lucky looking thru the 1970's SC brochures, can you be more specific w/ year & model: 1972 Starcraft Starmist (or whatever)?

Is this 'knob' attached to a motor or operable arm behind the dash? The pix is way too small to see much detail, but it's placement & angle make it look like a windshield wiper stub.

A fiberglass SC or a tin SC? Looks like a fiberglass boat.

Welcome to iboats

The boat is all aluminum except the top of the hull. It's fiberglass. Here's a closer picture.

Where is it? On the bow doesn't say much. Sorry.

Tough to reference the size from the picture but the part that is above the rusty looking round piece looks like a snap for attaching canvas which I have many of on my Sea Ray.

Looks like an antenna base to me.

Re: What is the mount for?

first i was thinking the mount for your .50 caliber gun, but now that I see it, if it's not an antenna mount, it's a windshield washer.

Willie asked my question--what's under it?

Might just be one of those htings found on old boats "just a good idea at the time."

I see some threads got merged. I would go with wiper except the arm would have to be about 90 degrees to the shaft to work. Unusual mounting if it is a wiper. "What's under it" is a good question.

Funny but I never looked under it yet. I'll let you know.
