I have a 2004 40HP ELPTO Mercury. This is a new motor that I got with no warranty. I installed it on my Skiff in December.

THESE are my problems:

1.The motor does not want to want to idle.

2.When I give it gas there is a long hesitation before she will go.

3.The maximum RPM's are 4000. I do have a tach to confirm this.

4.Although the max RPM igoes to 4000 I still have more throttle. I go to give it more throttle and it almost stalls.

5. I have to feather the throttle back and forth to get the RPM's back up otherwise it will stall.

My attempts to fix the problem are:

1.So far I took the carbs apart and everything was clean as could be.

2. I replaced the spark plugs as I thought they were fouled.

3. I replaced the end of my fuel line thinking a check ball was stuck.

4. I have tried a new tank of gas.

All attempts to fix the problem have failed. I do have JOHNSON hose (MALE & FEMALE) ends on my gas tank. Do you think that this could be the problem? Any advice would be appreciated.

Mercury Marine warrenties all of their engines, I thought, where did you come by yours? I would start by calling customer service in Fond du Lac. The hose connection should not cause the problem, it sound like you still have a fuel problem---Bob
