What is the real age of my boat?

The registration says 1980 Wellcraft but Wellcraft inc. shows 1979 & 1981
No boats built in 1980? Then what do I have? 6 cyl. Volvo Penta that looks too big for the hull. The engine cover overlaps the fuel tank cover which if needed to access the fuel tank the engine cover would have to be completly unhinged and moved aside. wouldnt that be a safety issue? Did wellcraft design it this way? Please help

The last 2 digits of the HIN will be the year.
Have no idea on the other questions since you didn't specify which model you're referring to.

And the letter with that is the month.............
