What is this black sealed box with 5 wires?

I'm trying to trace the wiring in my 1978 Terry ABF.
Just before the front panel there are 3 wires going into a sealed black box and then 2 wires coming out. I'm not sure what it is or what it does.
The front trolling motor panel used to have a 12/24V switch, well it's still there but it's broken and disconnected. It also has a disconnected cigarette lighter, and 2 fuse holders.
The trim switch has been spliced in the past but it works, and so does the trolling motor, it's only a 12V.
2nd picture is taken looking toward the bow. The black box is hidden by the wires in that picture.

I’m a newbie and don’t know anything, but I wonder if it’s a converter 12/24v??
