What is this connected to the ignition cable?

Just got the boat a week ago and finally getting around to starting it. I'm confused at what the heck this thing is. As soon as I try to start the motor, I'm pretty sure this clicks and shuts off the power. I'm guessing it's some kind of breaker? Why would it just click and not try to start the motor?

It's an on/off switch for the battery...

My guess for the clicking, is corroded contact in your wiring..
If you haven't already, then clean them all nice and shiny... (on the battery, solenoids, starter, engine block, etc....)
Any connection you can remove, clean it..
Grounds too..

Not a pro here, so others will be along with better info, but ensuring clean electrical connections is always the first place to start...

Hope it helps!

That is a battery switch.

The clicking you hear is probably the pilot relay

Clean all your battery cable connections (use sand paper, wire brush or what ever you need to get them shiny enough to eat off)

Charge your battery
