What is this in my controls?

I had some adjusting to do in my controls, and I accidentally broke of the metal bar that is in picture. It goes on the circuit and above that red switch. What is it and do I need to replace it.

Yep...replace it. That metal bar with the roller on it is the "Start In Neutral" switch's roller. The roller will slip into that notch in the control cam when the control is in neutral. This will close the switch and let you start the engine. Keeps you from starting in gear. Nice to have.
