what is this part

i have a 1997 formula twin 454s bravo IIIs mercruiser in the engine compartment there is a aluminum and black component on both engines just hanging near motor mounts. <br />with 2 wires i believe they go to alt appox 3-4"<br />long does anyone know what they are? may be rod bolt or dons would know.they look like they mount to something.

would need a picture on my part. could be a blocking diode or a noise filter.

what are they and would they be in the mercruiser manual.also how difficult is to change the port starter.

That doesn't sound like an OEM part, I'm with rodbolt, a picture is needed. Mercruiser doesn't have anything that is just "Hanging" near the motor mount<br /><br />As far as the starter, there are 2 bolts, and a couple of wires to the solenoid. You have the boat, look at it and see how difficult it is to get to it to do the job. I've never seen a 97 Formula, but on many twin engine installations it's a real bear, if not impossible to get to the port starter without pulling the engine.
