My question is this pump looking thing in the back port side of the engine bay. I have a 1992 4.3L merc. it has a small fluid reservoir underneath the pump and 2 small hydraulic looking lines going behind the motor to a horizontal piston looking deal. at first glance I thought power steering pump but that is located on the motor. This must be an electric pump of some sort, not belt driven and maybe 5 or more wires running to it. I just want to find out so I can change all the fluids that should be changed when coming out of winter.

On the fuel side I have followed the fuel lines and found 2 filters one large one that looks very similar to a truck oil filter and the other is on the motor looks to be a standard inline fuel filter. should i change every filter since this boat is new to me and I dont know when they was last changed? Even tho this boat runs and idles good should I have this Holly carb gone through? any tips, fluid type, everything would be greatly appreciated. thank you all for your time.

The lines from the pump do not go to the horizontal piston looking deal inside the boat. The lines from the power steering pump should go to the horizontal piston, which is your power steering.

The lines from the electric pump you showed should go to the bottom of the transom assembly, at which point they go through the transom to the trim cylinders on the outdrive. The 2 small hoses connected to the trim cylinders are related to what the pump is doing.

As far as the fuel filters, a picture or 2 would be good. Usually there is one filter, but not to say that there could not be more.

You might want to get the service manual for engine and outdrive as that will help you get familiar with everything.

You are correct after following them down they do go to the trim motor.

OK so on the back side of the larger filter I found a label it is fuel filter then it goes from that filter to the small one in picture one.

Do they still make service manuals for this engine? Or would it be a 2016 manual for this engine in general.

You need manual #7 for your engine. There is a link to the online version in the adults only thread.

your first pic is the electric fuel pump, the second pic is the spin on fuel filter

I would probably rid myself of any small inline filter and just religiously replace the big fuel filter/ water separator every year. As well, there is also a screen inside the fitting on the carburetor where the fuel line connects. While more filters are not 'bad', the big filter/separator is sufficient and if you have any kind of contamination having a third filter just complicates things without adding any improvement in filtering.

Rick

edit - the first picture, as noted by Bt Doc, is your fuel pump. If that is what you thought was an inline filter then my previous statement is kind of off target :^)

OK that makes since I was just assuming the pump would be in the tank like a car. I'm going to look for that manual thanks everyone
