Hi.
I've got a 1972 Mercury 65hp that I'm working on. The remote control box is in a mess, and it needs a new key switch.

There is a cable coming from somewhere on the engine that has a round plastic thing on the end. It looks like it should be screwed to something and has a cord attached to it. The plastic thing lookes as though it's in two parts, but doesn't seem to actually come apart. There is a wire spring around it, sort of like what you get on drive shaft seals. That's the best way I can describe it.

Can anyone tell me what this plastic thing is, and what it's for? I think it might be some sort of cut out switch, but can't see how it would work.

Also, are key switches for the Mercury engines very expensive?

Thanks.
Steve
