I just received a new Yamaha 60LB prop model that I needed to install a tiller handle on to. This tube was hanging out of the grommet hole. I couldn't find anything about it online or in any of the manuals that came with the outboard or tiller.

Looks like a speedometer tube….if you don’t have a speedometer then just leave it where it is….

is there a hole in the end piece or is it a solid plug?
if a hole, need to plug or water will come out underway
carries water pressure from lower unit front edge to indicate speed

I suspect that you are talking about an F60LB. F for four stroke.

99Yam is spot on.

Probably for a speedometer.

Thanks everyone. Yes, it's four stroke F60.
@robert graham, the tiller installation instructions didn't say anything about it so I just tucked it inside around the bottom.
@99yam40, it was plugged.
