hi
I will have a chance to purchase a 1977 Evinrude 115 hp Model# 115799S in current running condition and good cosmetic condition, for less than 1,000. The current owner is a reputable guy on another forum.

The owner is having a 140hp hp repaired, and as soon and it is finished, he will sale this Evinrude to me

I am looking for some information on this year and model number. I know it is a v-4, however don't know much more than that

any information on this outboard will be appreciated. The more I know, the more I know lol

They were state of the art in 1977. Actually pretty decent motors, having gotten rid of the Electric shifting and troublesome Battery CD ignition. Beware of discolored (burnt) paint on the cylinders. Change the water pump impeller if it hasn't been done in a few years. Of course that goes for any motor, not just that one.

Agree with FR's comments. Back in these days OMC was King of the Hill. These engines had high compression heads and were strong runners. That made up for the fact they were not very fuel efficient. Compression is everything on these 2strokes, so check it-don't just take someone's word. If you can hear it run-better still. Check the oil color in the lower unit during your inspection.

That was a good mtr back in it's day. Before you buy it, do a compression and spark test on it. Also check the g/c oil for any water. If you can take it for a test ride it would help too.

thanks for the info.wish I lived in FL, again, I miss fishing there.

I know that I will need to check it out further, just wondered if they were a bad year

trying to purchase a used outboard on a budget, is scary. I have gotten burned in the past on a Merc 250 with a bad lower unit

thanks again for the input
