I came across this boat while visiting a friend of the family and he was basically trying to get it out of his yard so I trailered her home. He had no information about the boat other than he had never actually had it in the water, although the motor does fire right up. I have searched cant find anything abolut this boat other than it may be called a ranger II. I am looking for some specs like model, year, max motor size, or anything else. it is about 14' long and about 5' wide at the transom. Anybody have any info?

Welcome to the forum. Cant help with the boat other than it is a 1976 year model 'bomber' style bass boat.

Based on your Serial# It's a 1976 Ranger II Bass Boat and I believe it's rated for a 40 hp.

Awesome, thanks for the responses. It has a 50hp Chrysler on the back of it now so I will definitely check the transom to make sure it is good and solid. I have big plans for this little fishing boat. Probably going to redo the deck and carpet this season and maybe freshen up the paint next year. Honestly just happy to have a new project to work on.

Ok just a small little update. Got the boat home and was finally able to start working on getting the motor fired up and checked out. I replaced the battery cables and ignition switch and she fires up first try. The guy I bought the boat from told me that he thought it was running on only 1 cylinder and that he thought a coil was bad so my dad and I started to do a little troubleshooting. The first thing we did was try to identify which cylinder was the problem, so we cranked it and let it warm up and then used a digital thermometer to compare the temperature of the head near both spark plugs. The bottom cylinder heated up and the top one did not, other than the heat spreading from the bottom cylinder. So we swapped the coils thinking that was the problem and again the bottom cylinder appeared to be running and the top cylinder did not. So we went through the same procedure with the sparky plugs and the wires, changing one thing at a time trying to isolate anything we could but no luck. Everything appears to be working correctly from the coils back. The only thing we did not think to do was to actually swap the wires from the points to the coil to see if that would cause the opposite cylinder to fire. Guess that's what we will start with tomorrow. Thanks so much for the responses guys!
