I own a 1989 maxum 20' open bow with a 125 force. Now my question. I am looking for a boat that is 22'-24' long. I want an inboard motor that can pull atleast 4 adults on tubes and go 45 across the water while it does it. I want an open bow, I really like that in my current boat. I also like how wide the newer boats are, not sure when they started doing that but I like it and I want that on my next boat. I dont want new but woukld like it in the 2000 model year or newer and under 14000. Am I asking to much for the price I am looking at. Any suggestions or thoughts anyone can offer would be welcome. Thanks in advance

You want to tow people at 45 MPH on tubes? Trying to off someone?

Haha, that's what I was thinking, I've come off a tube at 40+ MPH and well.... it hurts.

I didn't even make it thru the whole post when I saw 45mph. At that speed water is practically like cement......

Yeah, pulling 4 adults on tubes at the same time is a rare occurrence for most people anyway, and doing it @ 45mph is just ridiculous. Either way, getting a post-2000 22' boat that can do it for 14k should be almost impossible.

What do you intend to do most of the time.

If you pull tubes a lot go with a direct drive or vdrive they handle all the power turns much better than an I/O.
Finding one of that year in your price range is highly unlikely.

Yeah, what you think you want to do is just dangerous and next to impossible with your budget. Better reconsider your boating activities/priorities.

How about a top speed of 40 MPH, and the ability to pull tubes at 20MPH? You will need a bowrider or dual console of 22' with a 250HP outboard or a 350CID Mercruiser. Price will be related to age and condition.

For the "activities" he mentioned so far, a direct-drive or v-drive tournament boat would be adequate, but you're not finding one of those for $14K unless you are getting into the early 90's.

I'm glad he's trapped on a lake somewhere and can't get to the coast

no just trying to pull people and have a good time. Not saying that I want to go 45 all the time just trying to get more power because most of the time I am out with 8 to 9 people and my current boat does like10mph. not much fun

As far as 2000 or newer year boats you find them on craigslist late late 90's to early 2000's for under 14000 all the time up here. That is why I am trying to figure out the type and motor conf and make/model that would be best for what I want.
I am still new at this only owned a boat for 3 years.

Well you said:

. . . that can pull atleast 4 adults on tubes and go 45 across the water while it does it . . .

So that sounds like you want to pull people on tubes at 45mph, which is dangerous. I never pull tubes faster than 25mph straight-line speed, as the tube will travel 45mph when swinging them out to the sides in a turn. Either way, pretty much any runabout or inboard tournament boat will do those things you mentioned. Finding a 22' runabout will be much easier than finding a tournament boat for $14K or less. It's still going to be tough finding a post-2000 model year for that price level though. I would extend your search into the mid-90's and you'll likely have plenty to choose from. Most any runabout with a 5.7L or larger should be able to hit 45-50mph.

the main reason I want 2000 or newer is that was the years my boat mech told me they started going wider in the rear and I **** that I like a little room to move without steping on someone did they start going wider earlier or is that about right

Not only does he want to tow 4 people, he also wants 4 people on the boat at the same time. A total of 8 people on the boat at some time or another. If I'm reading post 12 correctly......

Wow seems like you guys are giving this guy an aweful hard time! I agree 5.7 or better would be fine with the right prop.
