Hi guys,

I'm new here and working on a thru hull exhaust on my 00 Tahoe Q5L(has a sbc V8 305ci) Found some 4" Corsa marine exhaust tips on ebay, I thought they were straight through but turns out there are some baffles or some kind of silencers in them. No internal flappers just what you see in pictures. I couldnt find anything similar on corsas site. I assume exhaust water will travel through these just fine? How loud/quiet can I expect these to be (I'm running a diverter pipe so it'll go through the factory Y pipe and through the hull as well).

I'm a car guy so this boat stuff is new to me. Any help would be great and thanks!

Looks like you have older style stright exhaust tips which are nolonger made. The twist is added protection to keep water from comming back into the exhaust when stopping. Many places today have noise laws which do not allow for stright tips, which is why Corsa does not advertise them. I believe they will make them and for race applications, but you have to contact direct. There is also an issue if you stop fast and your rubber flappers do not work very well. The water can be pushed back up through the exhaust and drain into the engine exhaust. I have the newer style muffler tips and they are load and provide good flow, and with the extra baffels they are less likely to allow water intrusion

Thanks for the quick reply. Very helpful since I couldn't track down any information on these tips.

Since I'm using the diverter pipe that will use both the thru hull exhaust tips and the factoy "Y" thru outdrive/prop exhaust, I would like to think that any large inrush of water with the motor off would first be stopped by the flappers (I have extra to carry in the boat) and then like you said these spiral inserts and then possibly even drop down through the diverter pipes before it get pushed back into my cylinders.

Thanks again for the information, as long as the boat isn't just rediculous loud I'll be happy.Being a small v8 w/wet exhaust and diverter pipes I'm hoping it won't. If so I'll just sell these tips and find some marine mufflers to install.

Agree, you should be fine. The point I was mentioning was not from the water coming aginst the flappers after you stop, it would be from running on plane and coming to a quick stop. That's when you get the most water aginist the flappers. So long as the flappers are in good shape you should OK. I check mine every year when doing winterization. Have a good one
