Re: What kind of motor is this?

The only loop charged motors made by OMC 1974-1990 were the 2 cyl. 50-55-60 and the 3 cyl. 70,75, etc. models. All other motors were cross flow.

I have a model number J115TLCNB can you tell me if its a cross flow, I think its an 84. Thanks

This statement is incorrect.

My memory failed me. I do recall that they built a V-8 looper in 1985, it was an unwieldy monster at that time, and the Evinrude parts catalog on the web shows a V-6 looper in 1986.

Correction: I recall the V-8 looper in 1985, and the parts catalog shows a V-6 looper in 1986. Before 1985 the only looper were the 3 cyl. 50 c.i. motor and the 2 cyl. 44 c.i. one. Both the latter were good racing motors.

The recreational V4 and V8 loopers showed up in 1985, the first V6 looper was in 1986.
